FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know before the set lands on your table.

What exactly comes in the box?
Every LuxMahjong  set follows one rule: complete out of the box. You get the full tile set,  the current NMJL card, and a carrying bag.
Is this set NMJL compliant? Can I play American mahjong with it right away?
Yes. LuxMahjong own-brand sets are built for American mahjong under National Mah Jongg League rules, and the current NMJL card is included in the box — you can sit down and play the year you buy.
What are the tiles like?
Our sets are made by a workshop in Jiangsu, China — a region that has crafted mahjong tiles for generations. The faces are engraved (cut into the tile, not printed), so they stay readable across the table for years, and the tiles have the honest weight and shuffle sound experienced players expect.
Who makes LuxMahjong sets?
LuxMahjong is a Chinese-American, woman-founded boutique (founder Alice Chi, registered 2025). We design our own sets and have them made by the same Jiangsu workshop that produced our very first order — one margin instead of four, which is why a complete LuxMahjong set runs $120–$320 where designer sets run $660–$925.
I'm a total beginner. Is this set right for me?
Yes — the set was literally born from teaching beginners (our founder learned the American game herself while teaching three neighbors). Because the NMJL card, racks, and pushers are all included, you can learn and play with one purchase. The $69.90 starter tier is built exactly for first tables.
Can I play Chinese-style mahjong with this set?
The set is designed for American (NMJL) play. For casual Chinese-style games, players typically set the jokers aside — but if your group plays strictly by Chinese official rules, an American set is not the ideal match.
Do you offer personalized engraving?
Yes. Since autumn 2025 we offer custom engraving on our own-brand sets — a name, a family phrase, or your table's name. Engraved sets are made to order; if you have questions about returns on personalized items, email info@luxmahjong.com before purchasing.
Is this a good gift?
It's our most common use case. The set arrives complete (nothing missing for the recipient to hunt down), the carrying bag makes it easy to wrap and travel with, and custom engraving turns it into a keepsake. Our standard is "Ingenious Craft, Timeless Treasure" — sets built to last generations.
Are the products safety tested?
Yes. In 2026 LuxMahjong completed CPSC safety testing on its products.
Where do you ship, and what does shipping cost?
We ship to all 50 US states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories. Shipping is free within the contiguous United States; Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories ship for a flat $40. Duties and taxes are already included — no surprise fees at delivery.
How long until my order arrives?
Orders are processed and shipped within 3–5 business days, then standard shipping takes an estimated 10–15 business days. A tracking number is emailed to you as soon as the order ships (allow 24–48 hours for tracking to update).
What is the return policy?
You may request a return within 14 days after delivery. Items must be unused and in their original condition and packaging; you arrange return shipping, and a 30% restocking fee is deducted from the refund. Please email info@luxmahjong.com before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval can't be accepted. Orders can be cancelled any time before they ship.
What if my set arrives damaged, or a tile is missing?
Inspect your order when it arrives and email info@luxmahjong.com immediately if anything is defective, damaged, missing, or wrong — include a photo if you can. We'll work with you and the carrier to make it right.
How do I care for the tiles?
Keep them dry and out of prolonged direct sunlight, and wipe with a soft, dry cloth when needed. Store the set in its carrying bag between games. Treated this way, engraved tiles stay readable for decades — our founder still plays on her grandmother's forty-year-old set.
Is LuxMahjong the same company as Luxe Mahjong?
No. LuxMahjong (luxmahjong.com) is an independent boutique founded by Alice Chi and is not affiliated with Luxe Mahjong (luxemahjong.com) or luxurymahjong.com. Your order confirmation comes from luxmahjong.com, and our only support address is info@luxmahjong.com.
How do I contact you?
Email info@luxmahjong.com for anything — orders, shipping, returns, cancellations, engraving, or damaged items. We're a small boutique and answer every message personally.
