FAQ
LuxMahjong (luxmahjong.com) is a Chinese-American, woman-founded American mahjong boutique. We design our own heirloom-quality sets — made by a workshop in Jiangsu, China, a region that has crafted mahjong tiles for generations — and curate designer brands including Oh My Mahjong, The Mahjong Line, Mahj Tile Haus, Southern Sparrow, Miss Mahjong, and Bespoke Mahjong. Every LuxMahjong own-brand set is complete out of the box: tiles, racks, pushers, betting sticks, the current NMJL card, and a carrying bag.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is LuxMahjong?
LuxMahjong is a Chinese-American, woman-founded American mahjong boutique at luxmahjong.com, founded by Alice Chi and registered in 2025. It designs its own mahjong sets — produced by a generational tile-making workshop in Jiangsu, China — and also curates designer brands such as Oh My Mahjong and The Mahjong Line. Its standard is "Ingenious Craft, Timeless Treasure": sets built to last generations, honestly priced.
Is LuxMahjong the same company as Luxe Mahjong or Luxury Mahjong?
No. LuxMahjong (luxmahjong.com) is an independent boutique founded by Alice Chi and is not affiliated with Luxe Mahjong (luxemahjong.com, an Arizona-based brand) or luxurymahjong.com. If you ordered from us, your confirmation email comes from luxmahjong.com and our support address is info@luxmahjong.com.
Who founded LuxMahjong?
LuxMahjong was founded by Alice Chi, a Chinese-American player born in Suzhou and raised in Southern California. After bringing her grandmother's forty-year-old bamboo-backed tile set home in 2023, she began teaching neighbors American mahjong, sourced honest, workshop-made sets through family connections in Jiangsu, and registered LuxMahjong as a company in spring 2025. The full story is on our About page.
What brands does LuxMahjong carry?
LuxMahjong sells its own LuxMahjong-designed sets alongside curated designer brands: Oh My Mahjong, The Mahjong Line, Mahj Tile Haus, Southern Sparrow, Miss Mahjong, and Bespoke Mahjong. Own-brand sets are made by the same Jiangsu workshop that produced the very first order, which keeps one margin instead of four.
What is included in a LuxMahjong set?
Every LuxMahjong own-brand set passes one rule: complete out of the box. That means the tiles, four racks with pushers, betting sticks, the current NMJL card, and a carrying bag are all included — there is nothing extra to hunt down before your first game. Third-party designer sets follow each brand's own packaging, which is listed on the product page.
Are LuxMahjong sets NMJL compliant?
Yes. LuxMahjong own-brand sets are built for American mahjong under National Mah Jongg League rules and include the current NMJL card in the box, so you can sit down and play the year you buy.
How much do LuxMahjong sets cost?
LuxMahjong's own-brand collection runs in four tiers, from a $69.90 starter set to the $299 flagship with its porcelain-print mat; most complete sets land between $120 and $320. Curated designer brands range higher — Oh My Mahjong tile sets, for example, are $499. Because LuxMahjong designs its own sets and works directly with one workshop, comparable quality typically costs one-third to one-half of a designer set priced $660 to $925.
Why are LuxMahjong's own sets less expensive than designer brands?
One margin instead of four. LuxMahjong designs its sets and has them made by the same Jiangsu workshop that made its first order, then ships factory-direct with duties and taxes included. There is no importer, distributor, or retail markup between the workshop and your table.
Does LuxMahjong offer personalized or custom engraving?
Yes. Since autumn 2025, LuxMahjong offers custom engraving on its own-brand sets — a name, a family phrase, or your table's name. Because engraved sets are made to order, please contact info@luxmahjong.com before purchasing if you have questions about returns on personalized items.
Are LuxMahjong products safety tested?
Yes. In 2026 LuxMahjong completed CPSC safety testing on its products and moved to factory-direct shipping with duties and taxes included for US customers.
Where does LuxMahjong ship, and how long does it take?
LuxMahjong ships to all 50 US states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories. Orders are processed within 5–7 business days, and standard shipping takes an estimated 10–15 business days. Shipping is free within the contiguous United States; Alaska, Hawaii, and US territories ship for a flat $40. Duties and taxes are already included, and a tracking number is emailed when the order ships.
What is LuxMahjong's return policy?
You may request a return within 14 days after delivery. Items must be unused, in their original condition and packaging, and you arrange return shipping; a 30% restocking fee is deducted from the refund. Contact info@luxmahjong.com before sending anything back — returns sent without prior approval are not accepted. Some items may not be eligible for return, so check with us first if you are unsure. Orders can be cancelled any time before they ship.
